An Invitation to Prayer
I want to invite you all to join me in prayer, if you'd like. Or intention-setting, whatever feels comfortable to you.
Admittedly, Thoughts & Prayers don't mean much when there's nothing behind them. They're more powerful when fueled with intention and action.
I started doing this round of prayer at the end of August and was guided to do them every 3 days for 6 months - 60 prayers. I've done this a few times since mid-May 2020. It helps me ground into a feeling of possibility and hope, which I can carry with me through challenging days.
What I'm doing here is visualizing the world I'd like to see for all of us: remembering (for those of us who've forgotten) that we're all made from the same table of elements, remembering how to live in right relationship and harmonious balance with everything and everyone around us, making the repairs needed within humanity and with Mother Earth, listening to those of us who haven't forgotten these ways, which (hopefully) releases the systems of harm we're living in.
I say thank you in advance for this world coming to be, and then I act in ways that help bring that world into being. It doesn't have to be big and fancy. One step at a time is enough.
One step at a time is what brought the Buddhist monks from Fort Worth, TX to Washington, DC.
So, if you want to join me from your own home, meet me in the ether every 3 days at 8am your time. I just did a prayer yesterday, the 15th, so the next one will be the 18th, then 21st, etc. Set a calendar reminder if you need to (I do lol). We'll go till March 15.
If you already have a prayer practice, do that! If you want some inspiration, follow the steps below
* Get your favorite dried herb/s or incense - choose ones that are good for cleansing, protection, calling in friendship or calm. Think rosemary, juniper, lavender, etc
* You can also just use a candle if you'd like
* If you're using incense, perfect! If you're using loose herbs, get some charcoal disks from your local smoke shop (yes, the kind of charcoal used for hookas :) ) and put it on a fire-safe surface. I use a metal candle trivet on top of a coaster:
* Light the charcoal if you’re using that and let it sparkle. Light the candle if you're using that.
* Hold the incense (unlit) or a pinch of herbs while you speak your intention/prayer. If you're using the candle, gaze into the flame while speaking. Really see and feel your intention as you speak. When that feels complete, light the incense, or place the herbs onto the charcoal to burn, or blow out the candle
* Let the smoke carry your intentions out into the world
* Do your part to let your intentions come to be
We’ll need every tool we have at our disposal. Thank you for joining me in this.
