Happy International Women’s Day
This blog post is transcribed from a video I posted to social media. Scroll to the end to watch the video.
Hi all! I wanted to pop in to wish you all a happy International Women’s Day. I also want to talk about what that means, really. If you think about the word “international” and what it actually means - Inter National. Across nations.
So that means not just all of us in the US, that means everyone in Europe, everyone in Africa, everyone in Palestine, Congo, Sudan (which I realize are in Africa lol), Iran, all of these countries that are experiencing hardship and all of the women who live there.
if you think about the vast expanse of women that you find in countries across the globe, it also includes women of different skin colors, women of different ages, women of different physical abilities and disabilities. Transgender women are also women. Women in the LGBTQIA+ community, and that includes non-binary people who want to be included in celebrations for International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.
So when we say that we want equality for women, when we say that we want equal pay, when we say that we want control over our own bodies and not have governments interfering and deciding what we can and cannot do with our bodies, we have to hold that for everyone.
I hope we can hold space for everybody, who deserves liberation, who deserves autonomy over their own bodies, who deserves to be treated with the same respect that we give anyone else. Anyone who wants to be included under this umbrella of being called Woman, whether they want to be called that all the time or not. That’s cool by me! I think we all deserve to hold this space and this generosity for everybody.
And I hope you can find some additional space in your heart to include more people who you maybe haven't thought about before in these celebrations. There’s always time and there’s always room to notice and choose differently.
So, happy International Women's Day to everyone who wants to be included. I hope we can all work towards more liberation for all of us.
Love you!
