What is Reiki?Reiki is a Japanese method of energy healing. Literally translated, “rei” means “universal, all-knowing or all-encompassing,” and “ki” is qi, chi, or “life force energy.”
At this point in time, no one really knows when Reiki as a practice came to be. The name "Reiki" was first documented in the early 1900s, and Mikao Usui, considered the father of modern Reiki, developed his method in 1922. Palm healing as a practice, however, has been around in Japan for thousands of years. |
During a session, the recipient lies fully clothed while the practitioner channels this Universal energy through them. This can be done either hands-on or hands-off, just a few inches away from the body. Reiki brings the recipient deep relaxation, helps to reduce stress and remove emotional blocks, and can even relieve physical pain. It’s possible to experience many different sensations when receiving Reiki. Some people feel tingling, heat, or cold, and others see colors or images. Some people don’t experience anything, and that’s perfectly fine, too! As long as you’re open to receiving healing, it will work. It is said that an hour of Reiki is equivalent to about four hours of sleep. (Please do not substitute Reiki for sleep!!)
The most amazing part is that this is the same energy that you're made of. Yes, you! That means you can learn to connect with and channel Reiki, too. No prior experience with healing or energy work is necessary. Trainings include a level-appropriate attunement, training manual (Levels 1 & 2), and certificates of completion.
